Plús Hús: A Customizable Modern Structure
Hailing from Iceland, and based in Santa Monica, CA, the architectural team at Minarc, Erla Dögg Ingjaldsdóttir and Tryggvi Thorsteinsson, developed Plús Hús (Icelandic for ‘Plus House’) utilizing their award-winning, prefab panel system, mnmMOD. The result is an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) geared toward homeowners to efficiently add dwellings to their property for additional income or space. Plús Hús is a simple, multi-purpose structure that is environmentally responsible in its materials and approach.
Propelled by California’s affordable housing crisis and recent statewide regulatory changes to ADU’s, Plús Hús is a customizable modern structure designed to streamline the permitting process. It cuts through red tape while minimizing the time, waste, manpower and machinery associated with new construction.
The Modern Fan Co.’s Ball Flush ceiling fan was chosen by the Plús Hús team as a standard option for clients interested in the added benefits of a ceiling fan, namely, air circulation, de-stratification and evaporative cooling. From a visual standpoint, the minimalist styling and modern aesthetic that the fan possesses was a natural fit for incorporation into Plús Hús environments.
With three configurations, the foundation of every Plús Hús is sustainability, practicality, innovation and quality.
